ABR11.5 - Compare file dates and sizes and list of files backed up between incremental backups?
Hi
Is there a tool or way of comparing 2 or more backups.
This is useful in the scenario where you have a corrupt file or virus and want to look at several backups to find the last good backup or;
1. a file size change
2. file time stamp change
3. the last time a file was incrementally backed up
Its my understanding, that currently the only way of doing this is to open the individual tib backup files one at a time in explorer or mount the backups and compare them as the catalogs don't contain enough detail, and you cant compare backups even if they did have the detail.
This is very time consuming as the GUIDs and paths to the tib files are very cryptic and it's not clear which version you're looking at without some careful checking against the catalog.
In an emergency situation for recovery this is the last thing you need.
It would be useful even if a report could be created to do this but I cant see the fields necessary for this in the reporting engine.
Am I looking at this the wrong way or has anyone got an idea how to achieve such a thing?
It would also be great to just be able to see what actual files are in each incremental backup for an incremental file level backup. Is this possible?
I mean what's the point of cataloging if you cant at least see file dates and times?
Cheers
