Hi All

I am currently running ABA 11.5 build 43994 and am planning the upgrade to 11.7.

The environment consists of 23 Storage Nodes.

All upgrade compatibility information I have located state that a version 11.7 Management Server is only compatible with 11.7 Storage Nodes and vice versa.

Is this really the case? Do I really need to upgrade ALL my storage nodes at the same time as the management server?

Hopefully I have missed something and a 11.7 management server is backwards compatible with a 11.5 storage node.

comments anyone?

11.7 Management Server was never tested to work wih 11.5 Storage Node. However agents can continue backing up to the existing storage node without communication to the Management Server.
So you can update the Management Server first, then update Storage Nodes one by one, while 11.5 agents will continue backing up to Storage Nodes of version 11.5.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Based on your response I will plan the upgrade as suggested and ensure all storage nodes are upgraded within a few days of the management server upgrade.

I would like to note that I believe backwards compatibility between the management server and storage nodes is a much needed requirement in a larger environment with consist of multiple ASNs. I have worked with a number of other products in the past and all have provided this backward compatibility. When putting together an implementation plan for an upgrade, it is much easier to pass through the client's change control approval when you present a phased approach which limits exposure.

Hope this is something we can see in future releases.
