Acronis Backup fails to execute from USB

Thread needs solution

I am working with a system that used to have Windows XP. I would like to restore an image of another XP machine that operates some equipment at our company, so we can have a backup in case the in-use system fails.

The system I'm trying to restore to lacks an internal hard drive. It does boot from USB and I was able to connect an external USB drive (in addition to the boot stick) and format the external drive using GPartEd. (I'm aware external drives have their own issues, and am looking into other options, but would like to get this working sooner if it's possible with what is on hand.)

Next I tried booting Acronis Backup from USB. It successfully loads to the initial screen, with the options for loading Acronis Backup or Universal Restore. If I choose the option "Acronis Backup" it gives the error message "Program failed to execute. Press Enter to continue" and then just hangs there (doesn't matter if I press Enter or anything else).

Why would the program fail to execute? Is there anything I can do to get the Backup program to successfully load?

Hi Ginny,
which product build you have on the bootable media? Can this media successfully start on other hardware?
Did I understand correctly that the machine in question doesn't have an internal drive at all?
Thank you,
