Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Workstation Questions

Thread needs solution

The requirements for Backing up a linux system.

1. Needs to make as full system (bare metal) backup of a Linux based platform (REHL5/6 SLES10/11) while the system is offline
2. Backup to a network share (nfs/smb)
3. Support for ext2/3/4, xfs, lvm partitions (linux)
4. The backups are only temporary (one time requirement)
5. Restored backups (if required) will go onto the same systems they originated from so we don’t require universe restore.
6. We cannot install software on the box being backup up nor do we have another system in place to install a backup server.
7. The system that is to be backed up is remote. but will be handled by an onsite personal.

I am looking at the product Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Workstation on per box basis. The question I have is it looks like I need to install Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Workstation on a Windows system and then create media to backup a Linux box. Is this correct?

Hello Matthew Kruer,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

The product Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Workstation is designed for Windows based machines. If you want to install the product, you need Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Server for Linux.

If the product is not to be installed, you can use the Acronis bootable media instead. For every machine, you want to backup and restore you need one license. If you plan to deploy some Linux based systems to many servers, the product to use is Acronis Snap Deploy 4. That also needs one license per machine; however the price is much lower.

Every product from Acronis backup software, that is registered offers a full Linux based recovery media in .iso format.

Find more about the Acronis licensing policy here.
