Acronis doesn't delete transaction logfiles from Exchange 2013

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I'm using Acronis 11.7.55064 to backup my HyperV cluster. The backup works fine, but Acronis doesn't delete the transaction logfiles from my Exchange (path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Mailbox\EX-DB01).

I've set VSS to "Software - System Provider" and enabled "VSS Full backup".

Windows Shadow Copy works fine, I'm currently using the embedded Windows Server Backup to backup my exchange, which deletes the logfiles afterwards.

Also, Acronis doesn't recognize Exchange to be installed onto the VM (at least there are no applications listed).

Could someone help me?

Thank you.

regards

You need to install agent for Exchange inside vm where Exchange is installed and register it in your AMS, than go to Exchange Section in AMS and create backup plan for it.

Agentless backup will not recognize that you have Exchange inside vm, it will only backup whole vm.

Hi,

thanks for your reply!

Well, I don't have an extra licence for Exchange, only 2 for Hyper V.

Now, when I start the setup to install the agent on my Exchange server, the setup asks me for my licences.

Is this correct? Can I just enter the normal HyperV licences?

Thanks!

Regards

Have a look at licensing:

Acronis Backup Advanced 11.7 for H-V allows you to install exchange agent inside vm without consuming licence if this license is already used on agent for H-V installed on the host.

Just point to the license server (usually installed along with AMS) and it should recognize tha H-V license you already used and allow to use it on agent for exchange which you install inside vm.

Thank you so much for your help.

Unfortunately I can't just point the agent to the license server, because my Exchange server is on a LAN, which can't reach the server, where my Acronis AMS is installed. I have done this on purpose.
I've now just entered my HyperV licences, and completed the setup.

In the next step, I've tried to add my exchange to the AMS on my backup server.

It gives me an error, and leads me to this site: https://kb.acronis.com/content/27521

Do I need to add a second network card to my exchange which can reach my license server?

regards.

You just said your Exchange can't reach AMS and you did it on purpose - it gives you the answer why you get error message.

No connection between agent and AMS - no central management, no centralized managed vaults, no deduplication - you may have to rethink your configuration.

Well, I think you are right.

I thought, since my AMS can reach my Hyper hosts, there would be a way for Acronis to reach the exchange this way.

Thank you very much for your help.

Have a nice weekend.
