Advice for Acronis Implementation

Thread needs solution

Dear all,

I seek your advice in implementing Acronis 11.5

Current License we have

Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for SQL Add-on (English) 1 license(s)
Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for Hyper-V (English) 2 license(s)
Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server for Windows Universal Restore Upgrade (English) 1 license(s)
Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server for Windows Upgrade (English) 1 license(s)

Acronis True Image Echo Server for Windows Universal Restore (English) 1 license(s)
Acronis True Image Echo Server for Windows Universal Restore (United Kingdom) 1 license(s)
Acronis True Image Echo Server for Windows (English) 1 license(s)

Servers we have

2 X Hypervisor with 10VM
1 x SQL VM (part of the 10VMs)
1 x Buffalo NAS server with Windows Storage Server 2012

Where is Acronis installed

Acronis is installed in the Buffalo Nas
The version installed is Backup & Recovery 11.5 Virtual Ed for HyperV + Universal restore.
I am unsure why this version is installed and whether this is correct.

I tried installing Acronis in the HyperVisor but faced issue.

What we want to backup

The VM in the two HyperV
We hope to be able to backup file in use.

Challenges we face

We are not able to backup file in use.

We face "Failed to create snapshot for backup" error, that is why we used file level backup and the following settings:

File-Level Backup - Do not create a snapshot
Volume Shadow Copy Service - Create snapshots without using VSS

I am unsure why we have Backup & Recovery 11 Windows Upgrade and its universal restore version
I am unsure why the version installed on our Buffalo Nas with Windows Storage Server 2012 is the Backup & Recovery 11.5 HyperV verion

Hello,

In order to backup all the VMs inside one Hyper-V host (as well as the host itself), it is enough to have one license of Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for Hyper-V. If you have two hosts, you need two licenses.  This applies to agent-less host-based backups and agent-based backups (you can install an agent inside each VM).

The Agents are the only component that requires a license. This is the component that does the actual backup.

Other components (like the Acronis Storage Node) do not need a license and can be installed anywhere.

In you case, it makes sense to install all the appropriate Agents on the two Hyper-V hosts for VM backup purposes and to install an Acronis Storage Node on you NAS for storage purposes.

The console and Acronis Management Server (used for managing the Agents) can be installed anywhere that is convienent.

The other licenses can be used on other machines and are not required for the VM backup.
