Agent for ESX(i) (Windows)
Hi,
I am just testing out Acronis for our backup solution and I installed the Agent for ESX(i) (Windows) because I would like to test the LAN-free backup option. Is there anything I need to specify for the LAN free option or just installing the Windows agent is all that is required?
thanks
Rajesh

Hi Peter, thank you for your response. I have gone through the article before, but what i would like to confirm is whether there is some other setting for backing up through the SAN. If you take a look at the attachment I have submitted, in Symantec Backup exec there is an option to specify this. Is there anything like this in Acronis or as long as I install the Agent for ESX(i) (Windows) it is going to back up through the SAN.
thanks
Raj

Hello Raj John,
Thank you for your reply.
In the Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Agent for ESX(i) for Windows there is no setting like shown in the attachement. However, if you follow the configuration sample in our user guide, you can see that the Windows machine is also connected via fibre channel to the SAN storage and the backup storage. In this setup the backup is created lan-free.
If you need additional assistance, please create a system report of the affected machine and contact support. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.
If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.
Thank you.

Hi,
Could you let me know what is the difference between installing vmprotect8 and installing Agent for ESX(i) (Windows) on Acronis Backup & Recovery® 11.5 Advanced Platform?

Per-socket licensing vs per-host, no backup to tapes, no ability to backup particular disks of VMs, no V2P migration.
Also vmprotect is a strictly agentless backup (you can't install agent inside is disk configuration doesn't work with agentless backup e.g. RDM) but it's for overall product differences.
