AMS doesn't see VPN Users with short term DHCP address lease
Hi, I have several remote workers that connect to my network via a VPN. These machines obtain new IP addresses everytime they establish a new connection.
I have successfully installed the agent from the AMS and also added the machines. A central backup plan has been deployed to these agents which ensures the machines are backed up to a local external hard disk.
I now have the problem that the agents don't connect back to the AMS again. Or is it the AMS that contacts the agents???
Can someone please explain how the connection between the AMS and agent is made? Does the ASM poll the agent or the agent poll the AMS? Is this polling done by IP address or hostname?
Thanks from a happy Acronis user that is a little confused. :-)

Hi Anna,
Thank you for your reply. I have checked that setting on one of my client machines and that settings appears to be present. Perhaps if I explain my problem in a little more detail you may be able to advise further?
The machine that is added to the AMS receives a backup plan after it has been added to AMS and the initial agent installation has completed. If the client then gets rebooted and connects to the network (over VPN) again the AMS can no longer see the machine.
What I need to know from the AMS is when that last successful backup has occured on the client machine. I intend to install Acronis onto many remote workers machines I need to have a central location to be able to monitor the last successful backup time. Is this possible? (Especially when my remote machines will always have different IP address from what they initially registered with.)
I do have a support ticket open for this issue also (01968142) but I only receive notificaiton that I need a static IP address on all client machines. (This is not possible for me to do. And I can't beleive that clients don't poll updates back to the AMS.)
Your help to understand if this is possible would certainly be appreciated. I like the Acronis application and wnat to take advantage of it's efficencies on more machines in my business.
Kind regards
Jamie

The agent should notify AMS in 15 minutes that its IP address has changed. ( if it was registered on AMS by IP, not by name). If it's registered by name it must be possible to resolve to by DNS its IP from AMS side. And you are right that there is no requirement to have static IP.
If AMS sees that agent is offline for a long time, it gradually increase time intervals between attempts, and offline machine is pinged as often as specified in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\AMS\Configuration\Centralized\Synchronization\OfflinePeriodThreshold (seconds)
(can be changed via administrative template as described in userguide at http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11.5/#14749.html )
