Automated full daily backups to the Cloud on shutdown - is it possible?

Thread needs solution

Hi
I'm currently enjoying a trial subscription so apologies in advance for any ignorance.

I have set up an automated daily backup to the cloud activated by PC shutdown and all seems fine.

1.5GB compressed (normal) to about 1GB - first backup (full) took less than 10 minutes.

It seems though that they are now just incremental after the first initial full backup.

Is it possible to set this up so that it produces a full backup each night and not just incremental?

The manuals seem to state that full backups to the cloud are not possible (except for the initial one) and that use of the Custom backup scheme is not possible with cloud storage - but they do not say why this would not be allowed/possible - is there a reason or despite many hours am I still missing something?

newbie Steve

Hi Steve,

Welcome to Acronis community! Backups to Acronis Cloud Storage are always created as a set Full + Incremental. First backup is always full and all next backups are always incremental. This is the default behaviour and is resulting from the archive type, created when backing up to Acronis Cloud.  Online backup uses a new generation archive format which contains several backups inside one file. The mechanism of storing the data is similar to this one. The reason for implementing such scheme is the way data are stored on our datacenters. Moreover this scheme allows us to delete every backup we want. When using the local backup we cannot delete an incremental backup if there are dependent backups -> we should delete the whole chain.

Thank you,

Thanks Ekaterina

I thought that might be the case but with our full backup not taking up much space and expecting to manually delete alternate, etc. backups in the future I hoped it could be possible.

Particularly because we like the idea of running the backup automatically on shutdown each evening and this only seems possible with the Simple backup. So we may decide to set up a regime of starting a new Simple backup every 2 or 4 weeks and thereby have our fortnightly or monthly full backups to retain in the future when we manually remove the incremental ones carried out in between.

Thanks for your prompt and helpful attention.

Steve
