Backing up Hyper-V machines

Thread needs solution

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Machine that runs 4 Hyper-V machines on it. I found in documentation that you can use Acronis 11.5 to backup the Hyper-V VHD files if you shut them down to take a snapshot.

I have a couple of questions surrounding this:
1. I cannot find a way to perform, an automatic shutdown, nor can I find a way to perform an automatic startup of a virtual machine. Is this possible? does anybody have instructions on how to do this?
2. Is Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Server Hyper-V aware or you you need the virtual edition?
3. Does Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Server support hyper-V aware backup that has Granular Restore capabilities?

Hello Lost in Windows,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

When backing up the host using vss option (by default), the virtual guest systems are backed up without the content in the memory, in the same way, as it happens on the host. This backup could be used to restore the entire vhd file, but not the content on granular level.

To manage your virtual guest systems, you can use the PowerShell commandline. See this posting in the internet for more details about.

If you want to have access on granular level for the virtual guest systems, you need the Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Advanced Server, which you can use to install additionally four agents into the guest machines, or you are using the Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Virtual Edition to be able to use the Acronis Agent for Hyper-V in order to backup agentless.
