Backup 11.7 to Advanced?

Thread needs solution

I'm currently using Backup 11.7 and am debating whether to switch to Advanced simply for deduplication availability.

However, I do not have a server for the purpose of a deduplication vault as the backups I'd want to deduplicate are done locally. Do I need a central vault (on a NAS for example) for deduplication or can it deduplicate per PC?

E.g.
If I backup PC1, will it have its' own dedupe vault or will it need a central one for all PCs that I plan to backup/restore?

If it must have central vault, can I use a NAS as a target for this or must it be an actual Windows/Linux server?

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

The operation of deduplication is performed by the component called Storage Node, that is not included in the standalone version (Acronis Backup).

This component can be installed on a server as well as a PC operating system (See Supported operating systems for more info).

To have your data deduplicated, you need to create a centralized managed vault. Network share, NAS or SAN, as well as other types of storage can be used for it.

Note that starting with v11.7, Acronis Backup uses a vastly improved deduplication algorithm.

However, it is highly recommended that you create only one deduplicating vault on a storage node. Otherwise, the whole available RAM volume may be distributed in proportion to the number of the vaults.

You can find more information about deduplication best practices on this page.
