Catalog folders on local drives filling up

Thread needs solution

Hi there,

I have 11.5 Hyper-V, recently upgraded to the latest build 38774 and have found the following issue... in that on my virtual machines and the Hyper-v host, when they back up, their local copy of the catalog folder in programdata>Acronis>backupandrecovery>mms>catalog, slowly fills up with with sets of files for every backup that gets done. Do these delete themselves over time? Or will they just fill the HD up untill the machine falls over?
The upgrade went ok, the only query was what account to use for the managed machine account, to which I dropped in the domain administrators.
Thanks in advance if you can help me out.

Catalog is cached on local machine if vault is located on network share. If you have no retention rules to cleanup old backup, they will grow. You can do one of the following
- switch cataloging mode in backup plan options to 'fast cataloging' so that it will contain only disk and volumes (file recovery will still be possible from archives view).
- use a managed vault on a Storage Node, in this case catalog cache will be stored on Storage Node's local disk by default or can be placed in other folder or on a network share during creation of a managed vault.
- move the local mms cache to other disk (if space on C: disk is critical but not on others) as described in https://kb.acronis.com/de/changecatalog .

Thanks very much for the reply, the unmanaged vault is on a NAS box on the network, I do have a retention rule, so I'll give it some time and see if the old catalog entries on the local systems get deleted.
