Cloning newbie - Copying NT Signature

Thread needs solution

I cloned a hard drive for the first time.  I specified to copy the NT signature to the target hard drive, not knowing all the issues.  After the clone, as a test, I mounted both drives onto another PC using a USB 2-drive docking station.  Windows indicated that it could not mount both drives.  From what I researched, this is what I was expecting.

However, I'm trying to understand what ramifications, if any, there would be if I did not copy the NT signature.  Is there anything in Windows or 3rd party software (e.g. ABR) that uses the NT signature for anything (e.g. to prevent piracy)?  If not, I can't see a reason to copy the NT signature.

What do you do when cloning drives?

TIA

Hi!

You can find a detailed information about that question in this thread

The signature is used for booying links and drive letters. So if you don't copy it, it will be assigned manually. If you have any hidden or Recovery partitions, there could be a problem with their recognition if the signature is not copied.

Please, let me know if I answered your question. If you have any other questions, please, feel free to ask.
