Convert backup to Virtual Machine
Dear All,
If I wanted to convert one PC Backup to a Virtual Machine on a Hyper-V Host, Do I need a license for this Hyper-V Host? I will just use it as a destination for creating virtual machines from backup archives, but will not be carrying any backup tasks to back it up. So the Hyper-V is a destination only, but it will never be backed up.
Also, what is the best practices for backing up the Management Server? Where best to store it?
Thanks

Thank you Ekaterina!
Based on your response, I started to think to install the AMS as a VM on top of Hyper-V then purchase the Hyper-V license, and then I can use the same server for restoring some physical backups of interest as a virtual machine. I hope this is a good choice? Also, how will the Tape Drive work under Hyper-V while the AMS is Virtual, will it support the Tape Drive in this environment?
Thank you

Hello Mohamed,
Sorry for delayed response! The idea of having AMS and Agent for Hyper-V as a virtual machine running on the host looks good to me. The only remark about backing up to tapes: when applying settings available in Tape management please take into account, that the current logic of the software will consider every virtual machine selected in the plan to be a separate independent unit. In other words if you select multiple VMs within one backup plan and apply settings "Always use a free tape for full backup" or "Overwrite a tape in the drive when creating a full backup", these settings will be applied right after the backup of the first VM in the plan is over and not after the backup of all selected VMs is done. As workaround you can install Agents for Windows (Linux) directly into Guest-OS of your VMs.
Thank you,
