Custom GFS+H Backup Plan

Thread needs solution

Greetings!!

I wish to make a custom GFS plan with hourly snapshots of a working folder on a recently inherited RHEL7 server with Acronis Backup 11.5 Update 6..

We need backups of the following elements:

  • System - Full - Monthly - keep for 6 months
  • /Data - Full - Weekly - keep for 3 months
  • /Data/Development  - Differential - Daily (Mon-Fri) - keep for 7 days
  • /Data/Development/Working - Incremental - Hourly (8am-8pm) - keep for 24 hours

.. so here are a few questions.. if anyone has any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.

1- If I create separate backup plans for these folders, will the Daily Differential and Hourly Incremental need a FULL backup before starting? how will the retention settings delete the old ones? and will they have to create new FULL backup again?

2- Can this be set up in a single Custom backup scheme?

I tried a few different combinations with GFS and separate plans, but it doesn't look like it is working the way I need it.

I made one daily GFS backup plan for the Data folder, and an hourly custom plan for the Working folders, but may have put them in the same archive destination, and they appear to be numbered and are all incremental since the day 1 full backup.

It is on a production development server with about 1.3TB of data, and it takes a while to do the full backups, and 35-45 minutes to do the Hourly incrementals, so it is not easy to effectively test all the combinations.

The backup target is a NAS box which will serve as the local backup and staging area to push to the cloud. (currently using AWS-S3 for other stuff, need to see how to push Acronis monthly archives to AWS as well, as boss doesn't want multiple cloud storage services)

I saw one post about wanting GFS to use Differential instead of Incremental, but didn't find anything else that fit with what I am looking for. (apologies if I missed something)

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hello I-Tech,

Thank you for your posting! It's not possible to select a root folder for a full backup and subfolders for the dependent incremental or differential backups within the one plan. You would need separate backups plans.

Thank you,
