E-Mail Notifications failing / E-Mail-Benachrichtigungen schlagen fehl

Thread needs solution

Hi everybody,

I have an issue with Acronis B&R 11.5. Backups are working fine but some E-Mail Notifications fail to work.

That's from the log where the Notifications fail (I'm running the German Version of AB&R and don't know how the text exactly translates into English. I hope that's not a problem):

At first I got the error permanetly. I solved an error with the SSL-certificate of the mail server (the server where AB&R is installed didn't have the certificate of the mail server installed and therefor wasn't able to establish a TLS-encrypted connection with it). After that notifications worked when I used the 'test-mail'-button.

Now comes the weird thing: Notifications work, but not all of them.

I have two backup plans running. In both of them notifications work when I use the "test-mail"-button in the plans options section.
When the backup plans run and try to send me a notifiaction after they successfully finished I only get the notification for one of them. For the atempted notification of the other backup plan the error posted above appears in the log.
When I create a recovery-task the error occurs when I use the "test-mail"-button AND when the task runs and tries to notify me.

That makes absolutely no sense to me. It should either work on every task and test or at none.

I hope there is somebody who can help me with this.

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards
Malte

Hi everybody,

the issue got resolved with the help of acronis support. Just want to share the solution:

Apparently mail notifications of tasks are sent directly by the server which is backed up and not by the management server, which I didn't know. After installing the ssl-certificate of the mail server on every server that I want to back up notifications work fine for all of them.

What got me confused was the fact that notifications sent by the 'Test-Mail' button worked. So apparently test mails are sent by the management server whereas the 'real' mails are sent by the respective server directly...which is not the best solution in my eyes. If the test mail works the 'real' mail should work, too. The test mail should test the real deal and not do something other then that. Oh, and apparently the 'Test-Mail' button in recovery tasks does exactly what I expected of it, because for recovery tasks on a machine without the right certificate it didn't work with the test mail AND the 'real' mail. So that is only more confusing when the tests for different tasks don't base on the same logic.

Maybe the dev team could have a look at that (though I presume that it's a rather low priority thing).

Anyways...the issue is solved and the thread can be closed!

Regards
Malte

When you create centralized plan (on the Management Server) sending test notification from agent would require additional step to select the agent for testing notification and sending to it the corresponding command. On the other hand, recovery task is configured on the particular agent (everything below 'data to recover' on the recover task page) and test email in options - too.
