Hello rbmanian75,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

In order to identify the root cause of this problem, please try first to backup to a local storage, like an USB drive or another local HDD.

If this fails too, then the SMB share is not the root cause of this issue. If the local backup succeeds, then collect following information:

  • Screenshots of the SMB configuration on Mac machine;
  • Create a system report from the machine, where Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 is running;
  • Create a network protocol log during the backup operation, that fails.

Please pack all into a single ZIP archive to provide this information to our support.

I have checked your account and could see, that the date for end of support was exact the same as date of registration. I think this is an error during registration that you first have let fixed by our Customer care support.

Please navigate to Acronis Support Website, chose at step 1 -> Customer care -> and then at the bottom of this page -> Live Chat. They can fix the support registration as well they can open a new support request for your issue. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply...

The backup runs fine with local hdd and external usb hdd...The problem only happens while taking back up to mac smb share.

I prepared all the necessary information to send it to you and contacted support....support was denied because this was an upgrade.

Hello rbmanian75,

Thank you for your reply.

It seems, that the smb share could be the cause of this problem. How exact the smb share is defined on the Mac hardware? Is it done like described here? Please also check the access credentials. Please check also, that your Windows user is setup with a password. You can forward the screenshots of the SMB setup in a private message to me.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for the reply. I have setup the mac share similar to the one described and additionally i have enabled smb options found in the same screen. There is a password defined for windows user. I can able to access the mac share from Windows Explorer and can able to add/edit/delete folders and files.

Hello rbmanian75,

Thank you for your reply.

Does the backup job now work as expected? What is the result then?

If there is anything else I can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi,

The problem still remains.. I have tried my best and could not find a solution. Until i find a solution to this, i am going to use different backup application.

Just a basic question, does acronis b&r 11.5 supports backing up to mac smb share?

Regards

Hello rbmanian75,

Thank you for your reply.

To answer your question: Yes we support backup to SMB shares. It does not matter where the share is located, but it needs to be setup correctly.

Can you please collect the information requested in this post and forward this information via private message to me.

I will check if I can get a solution from our support department for you.

If there is anything else I can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.
