How do I delete backups marked for deletion?

Thread needs solution

I have an enduser that uses GFS backup scheme backed up to a local external hard drive and he says he ran out of hard drive space.  He has archives that are marked for deletion but won't actually delete.  How do I forcefully/manually delete them?  What triggers the deletion?  I didn't find much in kb as some state how to unmark it, and really nothing on forcing it to actually be deleted.

Thanks.

Hello Jonathan,

The archives marked for deletion are deleted as soon as all dependent archives are also marked for deletion or removed.

It is important to keep dependent backups available in order to ensure recovery. For example, if you delete a full backup, all the incrementals that depend on this full will be useless in case you want to restore data.

So if an archive is marked for deletion but not yet deleted, it means that a dependent archive exists that is still withing the retention period.
