It seems to me that backups are repetative (ie I am backing up the same data for different scenarios)
I have purchased the Acronis Backup Recovery for Hyper-V 11.7 software.
I have installed the software on a management server.
I have installed it to my Hyper-V 2012R2 Server. I have 3 VM's, running SQL, Domain Controller, and Exchange 2016. I have installed agents on all of these systems.
I have 3 primary recovery scenarios.
1) I have to recover the entire Hyper-V server, including all the VM's.
So, for this scenario, it would appear I need the agent installed on the Hyper-V server, and it backs up the data as one massive file structure. VM recovery is not possible, you can only do file recovery or the entire system. Correct me if I'm wrong.
2) I have to backup and restore a virtual machine.
So, for this scenario, I have to run a Hypervisor backup, which backs up the individual VM machines and their settings, so they can be restored to any Host system, theoretically. This does not backup the host data though, and only allows entire VM restore, or file restore, but not application aware data.
3) I need to be able to restore individual elements of data such as SQL databases, Active Directory pieces, files, or Exchange emails or mailboxes. This would require and Agent Backup on the the VM itself to recover this.
So.... is there a way to combine all of these backups in some manner, so that the data I am backing up is not duplicated three times? It seems to me to be an inefficient way to have to store the data.
Can someone correct me if I am wrong, or provide some insight into this?
Thanks!
