License Server Adds Machines Multiple Times & Other Laptop Issues
Since updating to 11.5 the license server finally gives clients machines licenses for ABR10,upgrade 11, & upgrade 11.5.
However over the last few days I have noticed a bug related to users with more than one network device. For me, almost all my users have laptops so they often switch between wifi and ethernet.
What I see happening is because the license server registers a license to the MAC of a machine it does so twice for machines with both wifi and ethernet.
It should check to see if that clients machine is already registered and if it is, it should refrain from giving another license to that client.
However doing the above would be an issue if the license is only valid for a particular MAC. If this is so I would recommend your engineers reconsider doing licensing this way because I'm assuming my company is not the only one switching to primarily laptops these days.
Furthermore, support for laptop clients is absent from the way in which computers check in with the management console. When a client returns in the morning, because they have a laptop, they dock their computer and receive a new DHCP address from. The management server does not appear to check DNS to see if a client is not checking in because their IP has changed.
To solve this issue I have a scheduled job that restarts all the services on the Management Server everyday around 10 AM.
Doing so forces the MS to reevaluate all client IP's.
It seems to me this is a simple fix that would involved the MS just doing an nslookup when it fails to contact a client after a certain period of time. I had put in a ticket about this in April and I was told my scheduled job alternative was the only way to solve this issue. Please consider it in future releases because the world is going mobile.

Hello Schaun, hello Heiko,
thank you for posting this questions and giving a full issue description. I will be happy to assist you with this.
Schaun, regarding the issue with several licenses assigned to one machine having several NIC it is so far the behavior to be expected, as the licenses are tied to the MAC-addresses. There is an enhancement request to be able to manually specify the MAC address for the agent, but it will not resolve this particular issue. So I have now submitted a QnA request to test this behavior and push the enhancements in this directions.
Regarding the second issue with Acronis Management Server and Agents changing the IP addresses, it is important to check the way you have added the Agents to the Management Server. If you use several IP addresses for one machine, you need to add it with the machines name and not the IP. If you did so and the issue still persists, I recommend you to submit a new support case and request that this behavior is tested. You can also place here the support case number, so I can track it. If you prefer not to create a support case, please collect and provide me with the following information, so that I can submit a QnA request:
- Delete the agent from Management Server.
- Add the agent to Management Server per machine name.
- Collect following info from agent: AcronisInfo, ipcofnig /a output, screenshot of management console connected to management server where the agent is displayed.
- Force IP change on the agent so that is looses connection with the management server (like if the laptop was connected to the network in the morning).
- Collect the same information from agent as in step 3. Make sure the screenshot shows that there is no connection with the agent.
- Collect AcronisInfo from Management Server.
- On Management Server click on Syncronize the machine. Check if this resolves the issue.
This information would be sufficient to start the investigation.
Heiko, answering your question, no, it is not possible to disable the license server when using centralized management of the agent. If you disable the centralized management for the agent, you can manually specify the license the agent have to use in Help - Change license.
If with Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5 you are still experiencing issues while re-assigning the licenses from one agent to another, I recommend you to submit a support case and give a step-by-step description of your actions, so we can try to reproduce it.
Please let me know if any further assistance is needed in this thread.
Thank you.

Hello Mr. Zelensky,
I reported this bug a year ago (Case 01267329) and was issued a quick workaround - though the bug is still alive.
If I have too much time I will possibly reopen this case.
