noobie question

Thread needs solution

Hey all,

I just purchased Acronis 11.5 for windows servers w/UR. I would like to create a full backup of my 32bit windows server 2003 and lay it on a standard dell pc. I understand you have to provide the correct drivers so the universal restore can replace them. My question is, do I have to find 'server2003' drivers for this 'standard dell pc' that im transferring to? Just curious as im sure it will be nearly impossible to find server2003 drivers for a standard pc. Thanks for the help!

Hello,

acronis replaces the drivers to Windows Standart drivers, so the Boot process should work.

But you have to replace the standart drivers of the System with the dell ones to work correctly with the restored system.

Thanks for the reply peter. I guess my concern is the drivers for the new HDD controller and chipset. Dell offers drivers for this new machine, but only for windows XP, Vista, and 7. Would using XP drivers for the new machine work with windows server2003? Or do I need to find a different computer that has server2003 drivers available for hdd and chipset? Hope i'm being clear on this issue. Thanks again for the help.

Hello wayne sprague,

Thank you for your reply.

In many situations the Windows XP drivers may work in Server 2003 if the system has the same type of 32bit or 64bit. But it is not guaranteed that this will work. You should try to recover with this set of drivers. If the system boots all should be ok. If not, you need to contact the Dell Support.

In many situations the Customer transfer their Windows server systems into new created virtual host systems. To transfer the system to a physical desktop machine can work, but is not common.
