Own cloud or internet service remote backup

Thread needs solution

What are the options for backup to your Own cloud or internet service remote backup?

I am in an area that is no where near a datacentre (acronis)

I have an sbs server I want to take a seed backup, then move that to another location and do backups to that (changes) over the internet.

Then if the server is detroyed at site location, I can then restore the remote backup to server hardware at the cloud location, then move that hardware to site.  20klm away

No - I can not use acronis cloud as even if they send a disk over night, it will take days to get to the location.

I just need a solution for local (but distant) backup storage, so I can get the site back and running in hours - not days

Hello Ed,

You can do this using the following method:

  • Create an "incremental" backup plan (using consolidation in the retention rules) to a local USB disk (for example)
  • Create a vault for the remote location (vault type will depend on how many machines will create backups to this location)
  • Physically move the USB disk to a machine on the remote location and do an export from the USB disk to the vault at this remote location
  • After this is done, change the backup plan to point to the vault in the remote location.

As long as you don't change the archive name, it will continue creating incremental backups on top of the exported full archive.
