PC Upgrade Query

Thread needs solution

Hello there,

I will shortly be purchasing a new PC.
My aim is to use Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5 with Universal Restore to restore a backup to the new PC, so that my new PC is a copy of my old PC.

In terms of disks and such, the new PC will have larger disks and will be partitioned in the same way as the current system, so it will literally be a 'disk to disk' copy via my NAS.

I realise that the backup will include my 'old' PC drivers etc - but as long as I provide the 'new' PC SATA drivers (for disk drives only), should this just 'work' as expected?

I know it's not quite what was intended by a 'bare metal' restore, however I'm assuming that once the restore completes, all I need do then is remove the 'old' PC drivers (NVIDIA RAID etc), reboot it, install the 'new' PC drivers and then copy any data and such?

I know I can use WET (Windows Easy Transfer) to handle the bulk of my files and user profiles, but this won't handle applications.

Is this even a good idea? One thing I cannot do is spend the time to install the new PC from scratch and install every application from scratch again, especially as some of them are large downloads.

Does anyone have any ideas or any reason this would NOT work/be a smart move?

Hello Arkane78,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

To perform this operation, I suggest to follow these steps:

  1. Ensure, you are running the latest available build or download a complete bootable ISO file from your account;
  2. Create a new full backup to your NAS device;
  3. Use this article for running the Acronis Universal Restore operation to the new machine;
  4. After sucessfully starting the system on the new machine, you can remove unused drivers, following this article;

It is not necessary to use the Windows Easy Transfer function, when using Acronis Universal Restore.

If you need additional assistance, please create a system report of the affected machine and contact support. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.
