Previously successful backup fails with Error codes 41, 3, 1060, 33, 50242, and 9

Thread needs solution

Have a backup plan for a workstation that has been working successfully for 14 months.

Backing up system drive and external USB drive to an external USB drive.

Using Acronis Backup & Recover 11 Agent for Windows 11.0.17437 on Win 7.

System drive is 281GB with 107GB free space.
External USB drive (source) is 465GB with 249GB free space.
External USB drive (target) is 931GB with 464GB free space.

Backup plan proceeds as normal until about 20% complete then fails with final error code 9: "Insuficient strage available to create either the shadow copy storage file or other shadow copy data."

These errors happen with "Use Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)" selected and "Do not use VSS" selected.

Here are error details from the log:

Hello David,

I'm happy to assist you.

The error message you've got means that there is not enough space for temporary saving of snapshot.

Please find solution in this article.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply Anna. A further question, which volume is the "temporary snapshot" saved on?

The System Drive or the target drive?

Weekly backups have been running approximately 40-50GB in size, monthly backups run a little over 310GB.

How much free space is needed for the "temporary snapshot"?
