Question about Bare Metal possibilities in Trial Version

Thread needs solution

Hello everyone,

we're currently looking for another backup solution for bare metal recovery because we're often having issues with our current solution. That's why I downloaded a trial version of the "Acronis Backup Advanced" and installed a client (agent) and a management server.

The client is a physical IBM Bladeserver of which I did successfully a full backup.

About the bootable media I have some questions:

When I select the "WinPE" based bootable media during the creation wizard, everything is greyed out (I cannot choose any WinPE Version or so... So probably that is limited in the trial version? But if I create a Linux based bootable media and boot the server (backup client) with that disk, I'm able to connect to the share on the backup server where I've backed up everything and I can see the directory with the long GUID within the "catalog" directory but the wizard (Data to recover selection) tells me every time "The selected location does not contain backed up data".

Is this also due to limitations of the trial version or am I missing something?

Thanks and best regards,

Ville

Hi Ville, thanks for the report. No it does not relate to trial version.

We're investigating the problem with WinPE and looking for ways to fix it.

Regarding Linux media, make sure that backup is not corrupted, perform validation. Otherwice contact support for investigation.

Hi Andrey, thanks for your reply!

The problem with WinPE was that I didn't have WAIK correctly installed, so I reinstalled it and now I was able to build a WinPE based recovery media.

But now I'm not able to test bare metal recovery due to trial license limitations...

The Acronis Bootable Media Builder says already in the option "Create the media without specifying a license (Only recovery from Acronis Cloud Storage will be possible)" and when I still try to do it during recovery in WinPE it says: the license is invalid the recovery task will fail

Is there no option to try out the Bare Metal recovery completely before buying the product?

Because that's where we have issues with most recovery software and we really would like to test this feature with other backup/recovery solutions...

Thanks and regards,

Ville

Hi Ville, specify the trial license key in the media creation wizard. I have sent it to you in the private message.
