Replication to 2nd Storage Location - Multiple Copies

Thread needs solution

My understanding of the backup option "Replicate just created backup to another location" should result in only the most current archive being copied to the defined secondary location. Unfortunately, I have 2 implementations of this and neither works. In both cases, all archive copies are copied to the secondary location. The rub is that our archives are large, which results in the backup taking a very long time to run.

I have an open case with Acronis, who of course said to upgrade to the latest build and try again ( always the default answer )... which I did and it didn't fix the issue.

So I am curious... has anyone else seen this behavior?

Hello,

i have the same Problem, the good news is that this Problem is solved in the new Version.
The bad news, the solution wont work for Large Backup Voults....

I have tested the Replication with a small Voult with one Backup, there the Replication works fine (a little slower then a Backup Job).
With another Voult where large Backups are stored there wont work the replication, it need a few days to replicate the Delta Data.....

When the two voults are synchron the Replication should work fine, but i have no chance to get the two voults synchrone with that much of Data Deltas...

In which version is it fixed? I am running 11.5 Build 37687...

We do all backups to a local vault and then ideally would like to replicate to a secondary vault that is a rotating drive ( to take offsite ). Unfortunately, because replication is copying all available archives, it takes almost 20 hours ( which isn't reasonable ). Kinda annoying...

So... after working with the Acronis technical support group, they come back and tell me that this is by design. Specifically, the secondary replication ensures that the entire contents of the primary vault are replicated to the secondary location... not just the most current archive.

Because my secondary location is comprised of drives that are swapped daily ( ie., a Monday drive, Tuesday drive, etc ) and rotate each week, they will not have current copies of the archives created since the previous week. So Acronis replicates all missing copies for all of the archives... which literally takes hours and hours. And they insist this is how it is supposed to work.

I am at a loss for words....

Well that explains why a 23 minute differential backup has now been 'duplicating' for over 11 hours. What a mess of a program. I am probably going to stop using this POS software to duplicate and create a bunch of POST backup BAT files to do manual copying.

Mike - I completely agree on all counts. If I didn't have so much invested in this solution, I would jump ship.

If it helps at all, I have abandoned using Acronis for the secondary backups and have instead begun using a file utility called Beyond Compare. I have it scripted to only copy backups from the last day to the secondary location and so far so good....
