[RESOLVED] Windows 8 64-Bit Pro
I installed ABR 11.5 last night thinking that it would be compatible with Windows 8... it seemed to install fine, however, the Managed Machine Service (MMS) is not starting up...
When I tried to start/re-start the MMS manually I got a dialog from Windows:
Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
When I looked up what services MMS depends on I saw:
Acronis Scheduler2 Service
Windows Management Instrumentation
Now here's the odd thing... both services are started and running.
I tried to change the account under which MMS runs to an administrator account, to LOCAL SERVICE, NETWORK SERVICE... but the error message remains the same.
So... my question... is there any workaround to make ABR 11.5 run on Windows 8? Is this going to be upgraded in weeks, months... or am I screwed? :)
You will find the solution here. Find more information about support of Windows 8 here.

Hi Fedor,
Any news on a date for the update ?
Windows 8 is out just for a few days I know,
but I think Acronis could have done the job before the release ?
Anyway, let us know when we can upgrade to windows 8 and keep on using ABR.

Just for you information, I have been asking this question since August 2012, my business needs to test this out. I have done everything possible, joined the beta site and so forth and there hasn't been any replies of allowing anyone to even test this in beta stage.
All replies have been general and I have followed the suggestion all the way to sending an email to "Win8feedback@acronis.com". At this time the only response has been "We did not receive any information about Windows 8 support with Acronis products yet. Please subscribe to the newsletter by going to Acronis web site or if you have already subscribed then I would request you to wait till next release or future builds."
I forgot to mention that there has been 2 builds since this original message.

Hello,
I have exactly the same Windows 8 issue. May I please have a date for the fix? I purchased this software and it is not functional.
Thanks,
Jeff

You can make it work in Windows 8 just be going into the registry and removing the dependency for the non-existent protected storage service. I think this was the method I used (just found this by google)
I'm having problems using the Disk Management bit - not sure if this is a Windows 8 problem or not, but at least I can perform backups.
d
Browse to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MMS
Double Click the DependOnService key and remove just the entry for "Protected Storage".
Exit Regedit and reboot your computer.
Now you can start the service if it didn't load at boot time.
