Restored Backup files are damaged

Thread needs solution

Hello,

we have a problem with our Acronis Backup Advanced (11.5 Update 6). We try to recover a few single files. The recovery process runs without a failure. But if we open the files, they are corrupt. When we view it with a Hex Editor, there are only filled with zeros. After a few test, with different backup sets, we find out, that it's the same for all backup sets but not for the files. Not all files in the backup are damaged. The original files on the server are fine. Currently the backup is unusable, this has a very bad impact for us.

Any Ideas?

We working with the Windows agent on a Windows 2012 R2 Server.

Best Regards

Hello Kevin,

This sounds like a very strange issue and I'd like some more details.

- Do you have any warnings during the backup or restoration?

- These files are located on what file-system? What is their size?

- A possible cause of the problem are file-system errors. Could you please run a chkdsk and let me know the results?

Thank you.

Hi Igor,

Thanks for your fast reply. The chkdsk finished a few minutes ago without any errors.
A lot of the files are office documents, with sizes <100kb.
The filesystem is NTFS with enabled deduplication.
The Backup runs without errors. I haven't log files of the restore progress, I have restored the files by drag an drop out of the archive file.

Hello Kevin,

Could you please clarify if you are using Windows built-in deduplication on your volumes?

Also, was the archive created with the latest update (Update 6) or is this an older archive?

Thank you!

Hi Igor,

Yes, we are using the Windows built-in deduplication and the archiv was created with the latest update.

Best regards

Kevin
