Should I delete the old incremental backup chains?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

My backup strategy is to take a weekly full and daily incremental backup. I am new to backups and disaster recovery because I am mainly a network infrastructure engineer (switches, routers, firewalls,..etc) so please be easy on me.

Because I am starting a new chain every week (full+incr), is it recommended to delete the old chains to preserve storage? or Should I keep all the chains?

Appreciate your prompt response.

Thx ;)

Hello Ahmed,

Thank you for your posting! This decision will depend on the time spane you want to be able to revert back to in case of any data loss. The recommended backup strategy will be to keep the operational data on the fast local storage device, so that you can access this data anytime and to archive the old data to the tape device or Cloud.
