Slow LTO5 tape replication speed

Thread needs solution

Hi,

We are currently evaluating Acronis for our next backup solution, however we experience real slow speed ~10MB/sec to 15MB/sec maximum on replicating to a LTO5 tape unit.

On the same server we had better/optimal speed with another backup solution, so it's not a hardware problem.

Our tape unit is : Quantum Ultrium 5 SCSI Sequential Device

Is there anything we can do ?

Hello,

One possible reason is the default block size used during the write.

If you installed the latest version of our product, this value is taken automatically from the driver, but the driver can sometimes report unoptimal values. This can be changed by following the documentation below:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_11.7/#…

Please note that if you are not using Acronis Backup 11.5 or below, it is not possible to edit the block size. In this case, please upgrade to the latest build and then set the optimal value for your tape drive.

Thank you!

Hi,

I'm using version 11.7.  However this does not seem to have worked..

I tried creating 'TapeLocation' key and adding the following keys (and tried different values) :

- DefaultBlockSize (DWORD)

- WriteCacheSize (DWORD)

But I get very slow speed... :

[ INFO   ] Rewinding tape.
[ INFO   ] Trying to perform fast erase of tape.
[ INFO   ] Rewinding tape.
[ INFO   ] Writing data with block size 16k
[ INFO   ] Bytes written: 1G
[ INFO   ] Average speed: 3.58042M/sec
[ INFO   ] Rewinding tape.
[ INFO   ] Reading data.
[ INFO   ] Read speed: 20.0784M/sec
[ INFO   ] Rewinding tape.
[ INFO   ] Trying to perform fast erase of tape.
[ INFO   ] Rewinding tape.
[ INFO   ] Writing data with block size 64k
[ INFO   ] Bytes written: 1G
[ INFO   ] Average speed: 7.87692M/sec
[ INFO   ] Rewinding tape.
[ INFO   ] Reading data.
[ INFO   ] Read speed: 17.0667M/sec
[ INFO   ] Rewinding tape.
[ INFO   ] Trying to perform fast erase of tape.
[ INFO   ] Rewinding tape.

I don't think Acronis get the values I put in registry.

Any thoughts ?

Hi, do you have properly installed drivers for the device?

Did you use this tool? https://kb.acronis.com/content/57237
