Snapman.sys BSOD at bootup

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm using Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5. I've had this BSOD caused by snapman.sys for a few months now.

This BSOD on booting my windows vista will usually need me to reboot 2 to 8 times before I'm able to get in and the numbers of tries I need is almost never the same two time in a row.

I've no idea what I should do to fix this.

This could be related... my backups are completed successfully but I always get a warning that it couldn't do a snapshot image. I always verify my backups after they are completed and there are no errors in them so it doesn't seem to stop me from being able to use the backup software so far.

Obviously this is not something very pleasant and I'm afraid that at some point I will not be able to boot in my windows at all.

Hopefully I can get help before I decide to change software because I'm used to Acronis backup and like it.

ps. I've tried looking at other threads concerning snapman.sys but did not find a solution in any of them.

thank you

Cam,

What is the version number of your SNAPAPI dll/sys file?

Did you upgrade over a previous version of ABR?

Colin,

The version # is 4.4.0.1201

Yes I've upgraded the product about 3 or 4 times since I first bought it. Started with Acronis True Image Echo Workstation and then on to Acronis Backup&Recovery Workstation version 10, 11 and 11.5.

Thank you

Hi Cam H,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum.

I want to thank Colin B for supporting you.

The version of your snapapi is the latest and so far it looks good. But when you are getting BSOD events very often, the best ways is to clean up the environment and reinstall the product.

(!) Before you run the next steps, ensure that you have a valid backup. To be sure, run a separate validation task.

  1. Please cleanup the existing installation, following the instructions of this article in our knowledge base;
  2. Restart the machine;
  3. Install Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Workstation again.
    (!) There is no need to pre-install the old product before.
