Sony VAIO with GPT disk
Hi!
I got some conflicting information wether ABR 11.5 supports GPT disks or not.
In this (http://kb.acronis.com/content/5684) article it says:
"(!) Although it is possible to restore a GPT partition with Acronis if Windows is installed on it, the restored system will not be bootable."
But in other forum posts (http://forum.acronis.com/forum/33773) it says if you change UEFI to Legacy
in the bios you can create & restore backups.
Which of the above statements is true?
I don't wanna brick my laptop you see.....
After switching to Legacy mode i was succesfull in booting into the recovery Environment and make a backup, but i'm reluctant to restore it if it doesn't work!!

Hi Fedor Larin
I have to Watch what build number is on my recovery media, but if I understand you correctly,
Booting into Legacy mode will enable me to make fully bootable backups of the C drive & EFI Systepartition ?
(Given that you switch back to UEFI mode after the restore)

Strictly speaking - no, ABR 11.5 does not require booting in legacy mode to make backups, it works under UEFI mode too. If for some reason booting in UEFI mode doesn't work, but in legacy mode does, it's ok to create a backup when booted in legacy mode. However switchng UEFI/legacy mode after restore will not work - ABR converts booting scheme of the recovered OS according to the current booting mode if it can - so you need to initialize the disk to GPT before restore. If you restore to uninitalized disk while booted in legacy mode, it will be initialized in MBR and won't boot after switching to UEFI mode.

Ok, thanks for the info.
I ended up building the PE 4.0 version (Important to not forget the Create x64 media option enabled).
Now it works to start the BootCD in UEFI mode.
Is there an easy way for me to get the bootable ISO onto an USB stick instead?

I didn't try it myself, but for UEFI bootable USB stick, simply copying all files onto a FAT32-formatted USB stick seems to work. Making it bootable in BIOS mode requires more actions - like in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh265131%28v=ws.10%29.aspx . ( Note that you need to use .wim file created by Acronis media builder, not the original WinPE one)

Ahh, great.
Simply copying over the files onto the USB stick worked wonders!
Thanks for all help !
