Specifying a different Differential base

Thread needs solution

Is it possible to specify a different differential base in Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 windows server? I have backups that need to be created on a weekly schedule and they are also sent offsite on a weekly basis. I want to be able to create differential backups on the full backup that gets sent offsite. Is it possible to have the differential look at a certain location for the base or will it always just create a fullback up when it cant find a differential base. Thanks guys.

Hi Vlad!

Differential backups are always based on the previous full backup.

Every time when you start a backup, the agent cheks the metadata of the archive. The metadata contains all the information about this backup: type of all backups, information about backup-chain, creation date etc.

And if the agent cannot find the base-backup (full backup for the differentials backups and previous backup for the incremental backup), he creates the new full backup as a base for the next backup.

I would recommend you the custom backup scheme, where you can schedule 1 full backup a week (e.g. Monday), other days - differential backups. Every monday the program will create a full backup, after that you can safely export the pevious full backup.

If the old backups (full and differential) must be deleted, add retention rules to the backup plan.
