Is SQL Server Installation Required?

Thread needs solution

I understand when the Acronis management software components are installed, a free version of SQL server (SQL server 2005 express) will be installed. I realized there is a database size limit of 4G for the SQL server 2005 express. Is this fee version of SQL server enough for manage the database for the Acornis software?

In addition, when we deploy deduplication in the backup system, we will have the deduplication database for each deduplicated vault. Is this deduplication database counted upon the database size limit of 4G as stated aboved? If so, considering the big size of data in the vault (5TB data requires about 170G deduplication database), the SQL server 2005 express will not be sufficient. Do we need to install a licensed version of SQL server database to accomandate the database size required by the deduplication database before we install Acronis?

Thanks!

Hi Keith Li,
The default SQL Express installation is generally enough. This SQL instance is used by Acronis Management Server only.

Don't worry about the deduplication database. It will be set up and configured automatically when you will be creating a deduplicating vault on the Storage Node.

Thanks, Elenal. Can you pls explain more about the deduplication database. Do they use another SQL instance each? Or they use other database format?

I don't want to deploy a system for the client and they turn out will not work.

Hi,

what about the acronis 12.5? During installation nothing about SQL databases

Hello Malik,

In the installation wizard click on Customize installation settings. You'll be able to select the components to be installed and to specify additional parameters, e.g. select an SQL instance. Read more at Customizing installation settings.
