Tape Backup Interface?

Thread needs solution

Hi There,

I downlaowded the trial of Acronis Backup Advanced 11.7. The main reason is that it does tape backup and supported my hardware. The last backup software I used was Symantec Backup Exec 10d.

The issue I am having is with the limitations of the interface:

1. I can't (or dont know how) to select multipule servers through the "create backup plan"

2. I cant select specific folders or files, I only can select an entire drive for backup.

3. When I install the agent on a remote server it doesnt become available through the managment interface. It also only has shortcuts to the servers for individual access.

I'm not sure if there is another managment interface or a diffrent tool or software that provides these features. I'm needing something like or very similar to what symantec backup exec 10d was offering.

Regards,

Greg

Hello Greg,

Welcome to Acronis user forums!

1. In order to utilize the centralized management, you'll need to install Acronis Management Server (AMS) - a separate component allowing to create centralized backup plans and manage all servers in one place. To check open the Services (Start -> Run -> Services and find Acronis Management Server service. Here you can read more about Components for centralized management. Here guidence on how to connect to Acronis Management Server interface.

Once connected to AMS, create a centralized plan -> you'll be able to select multiple machines to back up. This plan will be deployed to a managed machine from the management server. Such plan can be modified only by editing the original backup plan on the management server.

I'd also recommend taking a look at the following part of the docu that gives more information on the centralized management.

2. Under Data to back up you should be able to switch the different type of data (in your case from Disks/volumes to Folders/files level)

3. Have you added a machine with the installed Agent to the AMS? Could you please post some screenshots.

Thank you,

Hi Ekaterina,

Thank you very much for the info and the very prompt response. All the above issues have been addressed and are working through AMS.

A new issue that I'm struggling with is the destination of the backup. It does not have an option to backup to the tape library. It only gives the following destination options (please see attched screenshot). How can does this get done?

I like the secondary option to backup to the cloud, very nice feature.

Hi, just following up on my second question/issue regarding the tape drive/library as a backup destination?

Hi Greg, go to Tape Management view and click Detect hardware button. After the tape library appeared in the TM view, perfrom inventory operation to datect tape media in library. Default location for tape backups is based on Acronis pool, but you can create your custom pool (by default tapes from Free pool will be taken for backup automatically).

You need to create tape-based Centralized Vault (make sure Acronis Storage Node is installed on a machine connected with tape device). Got Vaults, create new Centralized vault - specify pool for backup. After that tape location will be avialable in the list for backup.
