Transfer license from one server to another possible?
Hi all
We are currently thinking of buying Acronis for 9 servers at work. However these servers are due for an upgrade next year sometime. Would it be possible to use the same licence key on the new servers or does Acronis stop this??
As this is quite a bit of cash we dont want to buy another licence for each server again
Many thanks for info

We have a similar issue.
We installed Acronis Advanced Workstation 11.5 for a customer and registered it on the Acronis Site. The server died last week so we installed a new server and reloaded Acronis trial version.
How do we go about licensing this new install?

If you don't plan to reanimate the old server, simple add its license to a new machine through Change license dialog.
PS: As far as I know, Acronis Advanced Workstation 11.5 is applied to workstation operating systems, but you tell about dead server. Could you clarify please?

They are using a Windows 7 Professional computer to store files in a workgroup.
When I select change license there is nothing there. The license server option shows the same Windows 7 PC.

Oh, I thought that you use this machine locally (without License server). In case of License Server - connect to LS with Management Console (or if you use Acronis Management Server, connect to it and go to Licenses), find the license that are used with dead machine and Revoke it.
Now it will be available to assign to the new machine.

Hi Andrew
I click on Tools >Manage license.
It asked me for the license server connection, where I entered the server's hostname.
It then opened a license server page but there is nothing in the list.

Was dead machine licensed through specified license server? The Workstation license should remain there even if machine is incative.
Check that address of AMS where the machine was registered is the same that license server you connect to (that used with AMS).
Does the same license server specified in the Change license dialog? Try to Click Change... for License for backup of disks/files and paste the key there.
Or if you don't need centralized management, don't use LS,- simple uncheck Use license server and add a license key in the change license dialog.

All I can tell you is that the software was installed on that machine and registered on Acronis.com with the serial number.
Whether it was licensed with that machine or some license server I do not know. If there was an option to license it with a license server it would be that machine as that is the only PC in the company acting like a server. So there is no other place to put a license server.
Is the license stored in a file somewhere that I can pull it up or the system registry?
There must be some way to get this working based on the serial number we have.
They have
Agent Core
Command line Tool
Management Server
Storage Node
Tray Monitor
Agent for Windows
Bootable Media Builder
Management Console
Remote installation
License Server
Wake on LAN
PXE Server
You all seriously need to consider simplifying this product.
All customers want is a backup. Nothing more. They want to put a tape in the drive; wait for it to complete; take it out, then insert another. All of the above is meaningless to them and a headache to their contracted technical support like myself. When issues arise like this it waste a lot of time and gives the customer a negative outlook of your product and my reputation.

You have to be able simple add a license to LS or directly to a machine via UI.
If you don't, please contact support for investigation. Probably you tried to add a wrong key or something else.

Where do you get the key? We only have the serial number. I checked the Acronis Certificate and Acronis Invoice. There is no license key on them unless I did not recognize it.

I meant serial number. A license key is the same that a serial number.

Ok. That worked on the old server. I did not know the license and the serial number was the same thing.
I believe I tried this already on the new server already just to see if it might work. Both myself and another engineer. But I'll go do it again. Perhaps it was on some other license menu.
Thanks
