Windows 2012 as Storage Node

Thread needs solution

Hello,

is Windows Server 2012 for Storage Node supported?
is it supported to store Backup Archives to Windows deduplicated (new feature Windows 2012) storage?
Will this be supported in next version(s)?

Has somebody experience with san based deduplication?

Regards

Marc

Hello,

thanks for your reply.
I am interested in data deduplication feature which is new with windows 2012. I want to save the backups on a volume which has deduplication on windows 2012 enabled.
See this link:
http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11.5/index.html#23538.h…

I can not find exactly imnformation about the deduplication and storage node ...

"Data Deduplication
In Windows Server 2012, you can enable the Data Deduplication feature for an NTFS volume. Data Deduplication reduces the used space on the volume by storing duplicate fragments of the volume's files only once.
You can back up and recover a data deduplication–enabled volume at a disk level without limitations. File-level backup and file recovery, including file recovery from a disk backup, are not supported.
The Data Deduplication feature of Windows Server 2012 is unrelated to the Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Deduplication feature"

You can create a managed vault on a volume with Windows deduplication, but it will not be efficient. Even if two machines have two equal files, the resulting archives will be different even in case of file backup, and Windows deduplication won't be able to handle them.
