Windows 7 Backup failed to restore

Thread needs solution

I am pushing a Windows 7 image to a client that has Windows XP loaded (using Acronis 11.5). After pushing the restore image to the client, the image fails to restore. I get an error message stating a "windows boot manager error". We have noticed that somehow Acronis is changing the system reserve to its own partition with the letter D or F assigned instead of including the system reserve as part of the C Drive (this is evident before an image is even pushed). Therefore, windows will not boot properly after the image has been pushed. When we made the windows 7 image, we did make one image including both the C Drive as well as the system reserve. Any suggestions on why this is happening? Any solutions we could try?

Hello Robert Jaeger,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

Can you please provide more detailed information about your steps?

  • Do the target machine also have an Acronis agent installed?
  • Do you start the recovery task from Acronis Management Server or local or from bootable media?
  • Do you want to overwrite the Windows XP system with the Windows 7 system or you want to get a dual boot system?

If you need additional assistance, please create a system report of the affected machine and contact support. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.

I am looking forward for your answer.

Thank you.
