Windows 8/8.1 and Cloning

Thread needs solution

Am I crazy, or does Acronis Backup 11.5 not have a button to clone hard drives when installed on Windows 8/8.1?

Does Acronis Backup 11.5 not have full support for Windows 8/8.1?

Acronis's website list support for Windows 8/8.1: http://kb.acronis.com/content/31033

Thanks

Hello Everyone!

Charlie, as Fedor said all disk management functions are not available under Windows 8.x as well as under Windows Server 2012/ 2012 R2. The thing is that cloning in Acronis Backup 11.5 is performed by Acronis Disk Director Lite and currently it doesn't support latest versions of Windows.

Please use backup/restore method to copy data from one disk to another.

Thank you.

i have windows 8 and when I installed true image 16 on it the clone feature will restart the PC but it newer goes into the cloning screen after it reboots. It just restarts the PC back up normally. When I go into the properties of acronis it only shows the compatibality for up to windows 7 but this is supposed to suport up to win 10. Normally cloning is a very simple process. Please help

William, different software (this is backup 11.7 and not ATIH 16).  In your case, you may want to post in the ATIH 2016 forum instead.

That said, I would not start the clone in Windows and would instead use the offline bootable recovery media (create it within ATIH 16 v6569 if you're not on it already - preferably to a spare USB if you have one).  Then make sure to boot to the USB and pick the same boot method as your OS was installed on (legacy or UEFI).  If you're not sure, check out this forum to learn how to tell:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/29504-bios-mode-see-if-windows-boot-uefi-legacy-mode.html  (it is good for Win10 as well)

And to verify that you are booting in the offline media in the correct mode, use your specific motherboard one time boot or boot override menu and select the correct option

example Dell one time boot menu with Legacy and UEF boot options

If you can't boot to the USB media, that may be a sign as to why it's failing to boot when launched from Windows. Bios are very different than just a few years ago with many supporting Legacy/CSM/Bios as well as UEFI.  However, motherboards all vary in functionality and you may need to disable secure boot, you may need to enable CSM/legacy/bios mode , you can't be using bitlocker or TPM if they're enabled, and there are other gotcha's too.
