Acronis 11.7 trashed 2 ESXi VMs while running a consolidate task

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Our Acronis AMS server ran a backup consolidation job, and managed to totally trash 2 critical production VMs from 2 different ESXi v5.5 hosts.   VMware shows the following error: "An operation required the virtual machine to quiesce and the virtual machine was unable to continue running".  This happened immediately after the job ran.  What caused this and how do I prevent this from occurring again?  I currently have all jobs suspended for fear of doing further damage to our production environment.  Thanks.

Alex

Hi Alex,

The backup consolidation jobs do not work with VMs directly (it's working with the backup archives), so it's quite unlikely that this is something that has broken the VMs. I can only guess that the problem occurred on VMware snapshot creation or deletion stages which are totally handled on VMware side - Acronis Backup only sends commands to vSphere to create and delete VM snapshots and then uses the outputs withot interferring with the process itself. It makes sense to contact our support team first of all, so that we can investigate what actually happened and what might've gone wrong.

Thank you.
