Acronis backup 11.5 Update 5 - Trouble recoving GPT partition

Thread needs solution

My dell laptop died within its warranty period and they suggested I remove any data from the unit before sending it in for repair.  Since the unit was non-functional I purchased a Startech NGFF SATA adapter removed the M.2 SATA drive from the laptop and hooked it up to my desktop.  I created an image of the drive and then cleaned the drive before re-installing it back into the laptop and sending it off for repair.  When I got the laptop back I removed the drive hooked it up to the desktop PC and went to restore the image.  I get an error message and can't proceed with the restoration it says "Acronis Active Restore: Can not use active restore to recover a GPT partition".  For kicks I selected the desktop backup image (which is MBR) and it allows the option to restore.  I'm not sure I understand why it would allow me to make a backup of a GPT partitioned disk if restoration was not possible.  What I read about active restore suggests its used for restoring databases which I'm not really doing but I can't say I understand what its function is.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike,

welcome to Acronis forums! Active Restore does not support disks with the GPT partitioning style as a source being recovered, as a recovery destination, or as an archive location. To restore an image of a GPT partition just do not enable Active Restore in the recovery task options. Here you can read more about Acronis Active Restore technology.

Thank you,

I've looked but I don't see a place on the recovery screen to disable active restore.  I've looked in the program options but don't see an option there to disable "active restore".  I have also googled for "disable active restore" and not found anything that talked about disabling this feature.  Please advise.

Hello Mike,

Thank you for providing a screenshot, that is helpful! On your screenshot I see, that not all recovered items have been matched with the target drive. I believe that is the reason why the button Ok is grayed out and the message about Active Restore is just informational.
