Acronis recover Windows server to new Virtual Machine

Thread solved

Hello,

what I'm doing wrong, I need to try recovering the Windows 2012R2 server to a virtual machine.
Every time I get the result of not finding the Boot sector and the server does not running ...

I have a full backup created with AcronisBackup. see Acr1.jpg
With VMWARE I create a new virtual machine, boot here using Acronis Recovery, I can find this TIB backup on the NAS drive, it will restore me and the system will not boot me at startup. see Acr2.jpg

I achieved the same result when I try Acronis Export Backup to a New Virtual Machine directly from Acronis Console.
Also when running VMWARE does not find BOOT sector ...

Thank you in advance for your ideas.

Vaclav

Not sure exactly. First, is the original server UEFI or a legacy install? Then, did you create the VM to match? And when you restore the image, are you booting the rescue media in the correct mode too?

Second, did the physical machine use a custom RAID controller or other unique hardware? Does the restored image to the VM require different drivers?

I don't use backup 11.5/12/12.5 much compared to Try Image and Snap Deploy, but they have worked well for conversion to VMware virtual machines. These 2 items have caused me trouble though until I sorted them out.

I have same problems with Acronis or Windows Backup, Xopero. But - everything is ok on Virtual BOX. On Hyper-V i read "all internet" and i lost.

Virtual Box and mount vhd file with this settings:
- IDE controller > Type: ICH6 (this is important to proper start windows)

On this settings i recovered backups from Windows Backup, Acronis backup, Xopero Backup. But only on VirtualBox.

Unfortunetly VirtualBox cant working on same host at the same time as Hyper-V.

Problem perhaps solved ... I must first define in Acronis disk manager size and activate disk.
I didn't realize restore Windows Server for test to VMWare on a regular computer
is stupid idea, I must set 2GB RAM and it was very lazy, moreover I didn't want connect virtual machine into the network
(even on the Internet) - because we use programs what checking for license on internet...

I have final question: in a disaster, I really with new server and new disk array
must pre-define disk layout? When I boot with Acronis BOOT (created from the server),
I assumed that everything would recover, including the layout of the disks ...

Thanks for the forum! Thanks for the tips!

Hello Vaclav,

welcome to Acronis forums and thanks for posting your question!

According to the screenshots that you've shared, you recovered the UEFI-based system to a BIOS-predefined VMwhich led to bootability issues.

Please read the respective User's Guide chapter on how to transfer BIOS-based systems to UEFI-based and vice versa: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_11.7/index.html#12540.html
