Backup Advanced 11.5/11.7 not detecting backup destination drive

Thread needs solution

I have been using Acronis image backup products for years, usually from the bootable media.

These particular couple of PCs I have also done this with for years, including as recently as a few months ago.

But today I went to do some backups and while the destination disk (either USB or eSATA) appears fine in "Disk Management", it never shows up as an available backup destination.

Other symptoms:

    1) Drive shows up in "Drive Management" utility fine

    2) Several "ghosts" of the Acronis bootable media drive appear in the Local Folders list (including assigned drive letters)

    3) Knowledge base error code search does not find the error (See #4 below)

    4) Specific errors I noticed in the log:

        Error code: 0x0043005C+0x00AD0003+0x0003043D+0x0000FFF1+0x00000002

"Acronis Removable Storage Management Service is not available"

        Error code: 92
        Module: 67
        LineInfo: 18683428bbd9cab4
        Fields: $module: disk_bundle_glx_50064
Message: Acronis Removable Storage Management Service is not available

        Error code: 3
        Module: 173
        LineInfo: 90fb8a255b1df690
        Fields: ServiceID: 45, $module: mms_bundle_glx_50064
Message: Failed to establish the local connection with Acronis Removable Storage Manager Service.
...Make sure that the service is installed and its status is Started.

    5) These machines have been successfully backed-up with various builds of Acronis advanced image backup tools (via bootable media) for many years (including no more than 4-6 months ago), with no problems.

    6) Problem was initially discovered using 11.7 Advanced build 50064, but tried  latest bootable media for 11.7 (50088), as well as an old 11.5 build, and the same problem occurs. (12.5 bootable media does not have the ability to do backups, only restores)

    7) Problem was noted using both USB 3.0 interfaces (2 different USB drives from different manufacturers, 3TB  and 6TB), and one eSATA drive. (6TB) The drive partitions are always visible in "Disk Management" and display as "healthy", but they are never available as a backup destination folder.

    8) Tried both 32-bit and 64-bit bootup modes, same issue.

    9) Only change to these PC's that MIGHT have some bearing is that they were both upgraded with larger (~1TB) drives in the last year. But I'm 99.9% sure that successful backups were done subsequent to that change already.

I'm stumped, and I have a deadline I have to meet with these backups...

Hello Phil,

Thank you for your posting! In your case I'd recommend building a WinPE-based bootable media, as it has better compatibility with various types of hardware. Please let us know the results.
