Hello Guillaume,

Welcome to Acronis forums! If I understood correctly, you want to create an exact copy of the original drive and restore it to an empty unpartitioned drive.

To achieve your goal

1. Create a full backup of an original system:  you can either do this online via installed Agent for Windows\Linux, or image your system offline with the help of a bootable media thus eliminating any possible side effects from installed applications and running OS. When creating a backup task, please make sure you select all partitions including System reserved and Recovery partitions.

2. Once you have a backup of your system - validate it and proceed with recovery. Usually you won't need to initialize and format the drive before recovery. The software will automatically detect the drive and auto-map the volumes from the backup image. I'd recommend reading through the chapter Recovery, which provides detailed information on how to restore and various recovery options.

If you are restoring the system backup of one machine to another one with dissimilar hardware, you'll need to apply Acronis Universal Restore. Read the article Acronis Backup: Restoring to Dissimilar Hardware with Universal Restore for more details.
