Database Backup Problems for Acronis Backup 11.7 for Windows Server Essentials

Thread needs solution

This is driving me crazy!  I have tried every which way to give the SA user (including the sqlcmd method) for the Acronis Instance the sysadmin server role and have failed every time.  I cannot reset its password.  The system will not allow me to give the sysadmin server role to windows login either!  Giving the user sysadmin privileges is important for a backup of the database to occur!  How do I get around this?  Unbelievably Acronis is making it impossible for it's own program to backup its own database!  I am using SQL 2014 and it's management studio.

This problem only arose after I performed the upgrade to the latest 11.7 version that became available on Monday.

Upon installation, I was given the option of installing the database using SQL 2008(or something older), or the currently installed SQL 2014 which uses "management studio" to interface with it.  Naturally, I went with latest database.

After installing the new Acronis instance, the program now requires access to that instance for the SQL module to back it up, along with the other instance that my organization uses.  Since I can't designate a sysadmin user for the Acronis instance, the backup will not run.

One more question, It was late last night when I stopped working and don't remember if I reinstalled it again without the module that requires a database.  How can I be so sure I won't hose everything up if I delete Acronis instance that is still asking for credentials?

Hello,

This is quite strange as the update/installation would have failed if you don't have proper access to the database from the AMS service user.

Basically, the backup of a SQL instance has to run under a Windows account that is part of the Backup Operators and Admin group while also having the sysadmin role.

We list methods to add the sysadmin role in our documentation:

https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_11.5/…

Could you clarify how they don't work (is there an error? What happens exactly?)

Thank you!

Hi.  When I try to assign the windows password (which has sysadmin roles on the other database instances) the sysadmin role for the Acronis instance, it tells me that I don't have that privilege.  I tried to use the SA account, but I don't know the password.  I tried all the methods in your article with no success.

In case you can't read the screenshot clearly, it is SQL error 15247, "User does not have permission to perform this action"  If you download the image and paste it using PAINT, it should be clear.
