Extrem Slow Recovery

Thread needs solution

Following constellation:
ESXi 4 Server with several virtual machines ( win2k servers )
On an second physical server with win2k8R2 we have Acronis virtual edition with the agent for Esxi installed.
The Backupfiles are stored on the direct attached disks of the win2k8r2 machine.
Network connection is at the moment an old 100Mbit Switch.
Normal copy from physical machine to an virtual machine or to the datastore of the vmware host ( directly attached disks ) works with about 8-9MB/s. So pretty normal for an 100mbit Network.
When we backup an virtual machine the transferrate from vmware host to backupmachine is about 8MB/s -> ok.
So far so good.
Now we want to recover an virtual machine. We have tried it with different machines. The smallest has only about 8GB Harddisk.
We have tried it with new virtual machines and to existing one. The part where the new machine is created is working ok, harddisks are created ( thick prov ), but when it actual starts to transfer the transferrate drops to about 80-120KB/s !!!! So it takes about 10-15h to recover. We even set recovery priority to high -> no change. Network/CPU workload stays very low on both machines ( vmware host / backup machine )
As it will nobody wonder, the customer isnt pretty happy about that.
I just dont have any idea any more what to check or what to try.
Has anyone an idea ?

Hello Joachim Badzong,

Thank you for posting this problem in our forum.

Under normal conditions, the backup speed should be at least fast as your network connection. I suggest doing following:

  • Please register the product in order to be able to contact support. If the product is already registered, you can open the support case from this account.
  • Create a network log from this operation. Please use the Windows Agent for ESX(i) for this operation. You need around 5 minutes of the network traffic logged.
  • Collect a system report from this Windows machine.
  • Please open a new support request and forward the collected information to the support representative. You will find all available information about the available support options in our Customer handbook.

If there is anything else, we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.
