Thread needs solution

Hi Guys

We have a situation where we have Cloud Backups and Onsite Backup (Acronis 11.7 Server). We get the following errors.

I have attached the Backup Schedule as an XML if required.

I have made sure for this case that the MMS Service has the right credentials and have tested using the System Provider and Acronis VSS Provider, no outcome, irrespective of the VSS service type used.

I am noticing that the Temp file, where the snapshot is created in D:\AcronisTemp for us,  is not being written to it remians at 0Kb. It's almost like all the VSS services are not being used. There is also some commands that do not execute and the schedules don't execute. I have also looked at the NAS it is trying to write to, NAS health is fine.

We have changed the Cloud Backup Schedules to not interfere with onsite Acronis Backups. The errors are not clear, any help would be great, I have attached the file Backup Plan.XML and the temp files

Thanks

Mahesh

Hello,

According to the error, we get the following return from the OS when trying to work through VSS:

0x80070015

This is a standard Windows error code that translates to ERROR_NOT_READY or "The device is not ready."

What this means exactly is hard to say. The details you want should be in the Windows Event Logs (Application logs). Most probably, this will a VSS error event.

I would recommend going through our VSS troubleshooting guide here:L https://kb.acronis.com/content/36200

Thank you!

Thanks For Your Reply I will Investigate further and get back to you

Hi Igor,

The issue is now resolved for this particular case, by choosing

"Do not create a snapshot" in the "Default Backup and Recovery Options">"File-Level backup snapshot". I am concerned only that the backup is not time-inconsistent, maybe it is a minor issue, I just need the volumes backed up.

I further Questions

1) Are there any disadvantages to not taking snapshots to complete file-level snapshots is this related to the speed of backup process

2) Backups going to the NAS are not replicating to the Offsite USB location are there limitations, but I have seen this working intermittently, we had to upgrade to 11.7 from 11.5 and still not backing up to USB

2) Backup Schedules are not finalising although the Data is backed up, so the progress bar will show 75% and will not complete, and the next schedule fails because the previous status is stalled

Please let me know of above issue,

Thanks

Mahesh

Hello MS,

1) During a backup process, which often takes a long time, some of the backed up files may be in use, locked, or being modified one way or another. For example, you may work on a document and save it from time to time. If files are backed up one by one, your open file would likely be changed since the backup start, and then saved in the backup to a different point in time. Therefore, the data in the backup would be inconsistent. To eliminate it, we can use snapshot that fixes the data to back up to a particular point in time. This is done before the backup starts, and guarantees that the data is in consistent state.

Have you tried to apply solution from the following article? In Options window, go to Volume Shadow Copy Service section. Make sure that the option Use Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is selected. In Snapshot provider menu select the option Software - System provider. Re-attempt backup. Does the issue persist? If yes, check Windows Event logs on the affected system for the Event IDs listed here.

2) Replication to USB should work. Is the second location phisycally accessible to the time when replication starts? Operation log should shed more light on why replication does not work.

3) Does the issue affect the same plan where replication\cleanup is configured? With 75% backup task is already over - it should be some actions after backup preventing the whole plan from completion. This will be reflected in the log file.

Thank you,

Hi Ekaterina

You gave me some Ideas, I have made some changes, will get back to you shortly

Mahesh

Hi Ekaterina

1) I have followed the KB article you have supplied, the only change updated was the credentials for the MMS service and making the plan credentials the administrators

2)  Replication is not working, looking at the logs some internal command in Acronis is not working. The event logs just display whatever was in the Acronis operation Log nothing new. Which command is not working is not clear?

3) I could not see the cause for this, the error simply says action cancelled by user where there was no user intervention

We are still having problems with NAS backups barely working and Offsite Backups Intermittently working.

Tell me what you need from me, like reports and things I will send them to you. This has become critical for us due to the rise of Intelligent Ransomware attacks, we need our backups.

Best Wishes

Mahesh

Hello Mahesh,

Thank you for your reply! I'm afraid the issue will require more indepth investigation, which is unfurtunately not possible on forum, where we mostly share experience and known solutions. I'd recommend you raising a support ticket and let Acronis support team analyse diagnostic information from the affected systems.

Thank you,
