Linux Acronis Storage Node?
Hi, is there a linux version for ASN? Greetz Jazz

Hi Jasper,
There is no Linux version of Acronis Storage Node publicly available. We are using a customized version of ASN in our Acronis Cloud infrastructure backends, however it's quite hard to adopt it for on-premise usage yet. We plan to provide Linux versions of both ASN and Acronis Management Server (AMS) components for on-premise installations in the initial release of the next version of Acronis Backup (12) which we're currently working on.
Thank you.

Hi All,
I realize that this is an old post, however I have the same issue and thus the same question. "Can I run ASN on a Linux host."
I can live with the fact that multiple agents should be deployed to offload the Backup Management Server...etc. etc. etc. however, I find it awkward to install a Windows host to only act as storage note / agent for Acronis, since my Linux machine already is able to communicate with isci and my storage units.
The original post dates from 2015, and today is almost end of 2017 so I hope there's a solution to run my linux host as storage node.
Best regards,
Mark

Hello Mark,
Unfortunately Linux is still not supported OS for Acronis Storage Node. I've added your feedback to the existing feature request.
Thank you!

I need the same thing. Seems kind of silly. How many business rely on linux? We need a solution

Hello Anthony,
May I ask you to share more information on your environment? How many machines are backed up to the centralized locations managed by Acronis Storage Node? Why it's crucial to install this component onto a Linux machine? I'll pass this information to the product management.

I run linux in all of my servers. Its stable , I don't have any need for windows server. I don't want to pay for licensing i don't need in a datacenter environment. I don't virtualize at all at this point. I cannot as i run resource and timing dependant telecommunications software. It doesn't virtualize well. All installations are SUSE , mostly Leap.
My archive runs suse as well with KDE for ease of use but I dont want to purchase windows server just to run backup.
Obviously Rsync works fine and dd but I want a developed solution so i dont need a sysadmin for backup and recovery. Same goes for mysql replication , It would be great to have a piece built in for this
I just want to be able to manage server images and mysql backup from one location quickly and easily. Maybe I am missing something simple but it seems its impossible to find a premade , click and go solution

Thank you for feeding back! I've added your use case to the existing feature request.

In the current implementation you basically don't need Windows based machines in your environment to manage backups of your Linux machines remotely. A Windows based server is only required for Acronis Storage Node component. However, if the functionality provided by Acronis Storage Node is not crucial for you (data catalog, deduplication, resources optimization) , then you can simply install Agents for Linux on the machines you want to protect, Acronis Management Server on one of the machines (in Acronis Backup 11.7 it could be only installed onto Windows, now both Windows and Linux are supported) - add all your machines with Agents to the Management Server and connect to the Management Server remotely using any supported web browser.
Thank you,

Can you tell when Acronis Storage Node will by available for linux? Deduplication feature is crucial for my organization and we are using linux only solutions.

Hello Rafal,
thank you for reaching out! Unfortunately, there is still no ETA for this feature, however we continue gathering the feedback from our customers. I've added your vote to the feature request.

this is quite the joke....2019 half passed and still nothing?
for what do you people think is the linux mangement server good without dedublication?
lets say acronis backup would be a car..."linux users can now drive our car but only the reverse gear is available"

Hello Stefan,
welcome to Acronis forums! I've added your vote to the existing feature request, thank you!
To comment on the situation, we are working on a new architectural design for component which will eventually replace Acronis Storage Node functionality (of course there will be upgrade path to keep existing backups) in future versions and this is one of the reasons why Acronis Storage Node component in its current form doesn't evolve significantly. Our focus is to support/maintain the current version of ASN by making point fixes only when necessary, while all major changes such as support for new types of environments for ASN will be supported only once the new concept is implemented.

thank you
as a side note: my name is Thomas, I am one of Stefans colleagues, I did not realize his name would be there until I saw my own post today (the account uses a shared email)
We are actually still using version 11.7 because version 12.5 seems overall unusable
I had 12.5 test installations with windows and linux and the interface is horrible compared to the old version...what used to be a easy look at a list of backups to determine who has too many or large backups became a seemingly impossible task where one has to click around a million times and wait for the ever turning doughnut every time
but because of storage space issues (of the SAN which is not meant for backups in general) we are now forced to buy a windows license for a bare metal machine to migrate away from the 11.7 virtual machine
except maybe if you can tell me that the new version is just around the corner

By default all new profiles on forum are created with the same name as in Acronis account. You may want to specify the company name in the Nickname field of your forum profile. Click on My account at the top of a forum page -> Edit profile and below you'll see Nickname field.

Would you mind posting more details on the use cases in a separate topic? I'm sure we can find the better way to complete your requirements and minimize efforts from the administrators side. Acronis Backup 12.5 differs from Acronis Backup 11.7 in a lot of aspects allowing to cover scenarios that were not supported in 11.7 and earlier builds.

Currently we cannot share ETA on when the major version will be released, I've left a comment that the feature is critical for your company.
