Possible bug: incorrect deduplication and compression ratios

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I recently started testing the Acronis deduplication feature and found something seems wrong with the reported deduplication and compression ratios.

The test I used is setup to only backup two directories. One containing a data file, the other empty. Compression is turned off.

After running the first differential backup, the ratios reported in the vault view are:

Compression ratio: 1:1
Deduplication ratio: 1:1
Ratio: 1:1

The backed up data size is: 1.761GB and the occupied space size is: 1.780GB

Now I move the data file to the other directory and start a new differential backup.

The reported ratios in the vault view after this backup are:

Compression ratio: 1:1.9
Deduplication ratio: 1:2
Ratio: 1:1.9

The backed up data size now is: 3.522GB and the occupied space size is: 1.780GB

Since the data file was only moved between backups, it was not back upped a second time hence the deduplication ratio of 1:2. But since compression is turned off, the compression ratio should be 1:1 and not 1:1.9

Furthermore if I generate the vault statistics report, they do not mention any deduplication ratio at all only a compression ratio of 50% which should be the percentage for the deduplication ratio (1:2).

I've included the reports (renamed as .txt) for your convenience.

Hello commencer,

Thank you for your post and for paying attention to program reports!

We’ve forwarded your feedback to development team and please be sure that it will be carefully considered.

Really, the compression ratio in the second case might seem to be confusing but it is right. If you choose as backup destination deduplication vault, Acronis Storage Node performs internal compression in any case.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
