ABR11.5 will use Windows APIs to find the tape drive, so if Windows can't see it, ABR11.5 is unlikely to see it.

Perhaps the recovery CD can see them, thoug of course this means rebooting a server.

 Hello Goran,

Thank you for posting. I am glad to assist you with this issue.

As Colin B already mentioned, Windows APIs are used to communicate with the tape device from Acronis Backup and Recovery 11/11.5. However, you mentioned that the tape device is recognized in Device Manager and only the lack of Windows Removable Sotrage Management prevents you from using it for backups. Acronis Backup and Recovery 11 has its own Removable Storage Management Service that works with tape devices. But still correct device recognition in Windows is a must.

The logs you provided contain the error "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" which is usually caused by faulty drivers installation. In order to resolve the issue, do the following:

  1. In Device Manager uninstall the tape device drivers and the device itself.
  2. Scan for hardware changes to add the tape device to the list. Tape device will be added to the list again.
  3. Check that in tape device properties there are multiple tabs with tape-specific settings. This would be a sign for correct driver installation.
  4. Start Acronis Backup and Recovery 11 Management Console and in Tape Management detect the device. Then run the inventory and create a vault for this tape device.

Should you still get errors on tape detection, please download and install the latest drivers for the device (from vendors website) and run the tape check utility that is usually supplied with the device. Additionally, run this tool on the machine with the device and post the output in this thread.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
